Urban Rhythms
The Urban Rhythms program provides a 25-week school based, African-centered cultural arts program where participants learn about the contributions that African civilizations have made to the world in a manner that is historically accurate, culturally sensitive, inspiring in its content and practical in its presentation. The overall goal of Urban Rhythms is to utilize cultural and artistic study to increase the quality of life, enhance academic interests and encourage the pursuit of knowledge.

The curriculum includes traditional and contemporary lifestyles, culinary arts, festivals and rituals, traditional West African dance and African percussion workshops. Participants meet twice weekly during their regular class time for a minimum of one hour. Urban Rhythms reaches approximately 2,000 individuals per year. This program attempts to connect an individual's desire for self expression to their vision and definition of who they are in relationship to self, family, community, nation and race.
