Better Family Life, Inc. (BFL) is a community development 501(c)(3) corporation dedicated to the prosperity and growth of the American family. Organized in February 1983 out of a need to find internal solutions to the crises within the African American family, BFL's mission is to plan and establish social, cultural, artistic, youth, economic, housing and educational programs that help to promote positive and innovative changes within the metropolitan St. Louis and East St. Louis communities. Much of BFL's programming is geared towards people who are unemployed, underemployed, disadvantaged and skill-deficient.
Better Family Life, Inc. has spent the past twenty-three years proving to be an effective administrative and programmatic vehicle offering a full spectrum of programs and services, including after-school, in-school and summer programs, career training and job placement services, housing counseling services and down payment assistance, cultural awareness/enrichment programs and services, youth programs and family support services and community festivals. Better Family Life, Inc. produces five special events annually: "BLACK DANCE - USA: A Celebration in Movement" (May 26-30, 2010), Family Week (August 9-14, 2010), Unity Ball (November 20, 2010), and Kwanzaa Holiday Expo (December 11-12, 2010). These special events offer BFL an opportunity to nourish and support our on-going programs and initiatives. Our special events and community activities bring together families, youth, teachers, neighborhoods, corporate and civic leaders, community organizations and many others.
Better Family Life operates out of six locations: 724 N. Union Boulevard (headquarters), 6347 Plymouth Avenue in Wellston (St. Louis County), the Alpha Omega Learning Center, 430 Wimmer Place in E. St. Louis, Illinois, 5300 Delmar Boulevard, 5300 Lindell Boulevard and 1445 N. 9th Street in downtown St. Louis. Better Family Life will be moving into its new home, the Better Family Life Cultural, Educational, and Business Center, 5415 Page Boulevard, in 2011. The company has a full time professional staff of over 100 with 20% of the staff having advanced degrees.
